March Member Spotlight - Laura W.

Name: Laura W.

Hometown: Jeffersontown, KY

Family: Married to my best friend, Keith, for almost 17 years. We have one daughter together. An eleven year old young lady named Tricia. She is our pride and joy.

Why Do you Run? For health, therapy and friendship.

Favorite non running workout: Group fitness classes such as bootcamp or spin. Basically anything that pushes me out of my comfort zone.

Favorite training plan: The only one I’ve ever done is the one I’m following now, which is the KDF Norton Sports Health training plan.

Favorite place to run and why: Any place new really. If I have to pick, I guess it’d be Cherokee, for all the mature trees and beautiful scenery.

The one thing I need to run: Opportunity

Perfect running weather: Sunshine and 50 degrees!

Favorite post-run indulgence: Shower beer! What else??

What is your favorite running song that gives you strength? I’m Better by Missy Elliot

Favorite race and why? So far it’s the Anthem 5k I just did, as it had the most friends and family involved. I have grown so close to several of the women in this group whilst training for the Triple Crown and KDF. It’s been life changing!!

What’s your bucket list race? Any Ragnar

When did you start calling yourself a runner? After my first official race, the Gaslight 5k.

What do you tell yourself to keep going on a tough run? I have a grab bag of inspirational quotes from athletes that I admire and draw strength from.

“It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb, it’s the pebble in your shoe.” By Muhammad Ali, is probably my favorite “mind over matter” mantra.

What have you struggled with during your running journey, and did you find a solution? Plantar fasciitis was definitely the toughest thing I’ve dealt with while running. Among other approaches, scraping seemed to resolve my issue the most.

What 3 things do you most want to accomplish?
1.) The KDF Mini (my first half )
2.) To grow as a runner, mom, wife and friend.
3.) To realize my potential, while remaining humble and grateful.
