How long have you been a member of SRTT? Why did you join?

Since late 2017. I was added by Lori after we were signed up for Disney Princess Half in 2018.

Why do you run?

Because I can, to get outdoors and to prove to myself that I can do hard things.

Favorite non-running workout:

Lifting!

What is the one thing you absolutely need to run?

Sunglasses if I have to pick just 1. I can't see without them

What is your favorite post-run indulgence?

I don't know if I have one. Usually depends on how I feel and how much time I have :)

What was your favorite race and why?

Dallas BMW Half Marathon. Great crowd support, generally great temps and it's my PR half!

What is your bucket list race?

I don't know that I've thought about bucket list races but was interested in maybe the Glacier Half Marathon. Right now, it feels impossible though.

Do you call yourself a runner? If so, at what point in your journey did that happen?

Yes - but it took me a LONG time to feel like I could say that since I can't run without intervals. I don't remember exactly when it happened but this group helped me get to that mindset.

What is your favorite thing about being an SRTT member?

The support and friendships I've made.

What have you struggled with during your running journey and did you find a solution?

oh man - I think comparison is one big thing I've struggled with. I haven't found a solution yet but I am working on realizing that I run for me and to prove to myself that I can because it's hard for me. It doesn't matter how fast I am or if I can't run as long as someone else, as long as I am getting out there and doing something I didn't think possible.

The other things I've struggled with are shin splints, PF at times and just being heavier and therefore slower and not able to run as long. Getting into a rhythm with my pace and breathing.

What three things do you most want to accomplish (running or non-running related)?

#1 - Do pushups on my toes. I've been working towards this since June of last year and after some shoulder issues, I had to take a break for a bit/haven't been consistent but went to PT and continuing the exercises provided and getting back to it now. I was SO close before my shoulder issue.

#2 - Be able to complete another half marathon. Getting older and I gained A LOT of weight during covid (thanks to hormones) so starting over with running and it feels impossible.

#3 - Continue to grow. learn and do things out of my comfort zone.

How long have you been a member of SRTT? Why did you join?

3 years. I wanted to connect with other female-identifying runners in the area.

Why do you Run?

Stress relief! Running unclogs my brain.

Favorite non-running workout:

Pilates, though lately I don’t do it as much as I’d like.

What is the one thing you absolutely need to run? Good shoes! My plantar fasciitis flares up when I don’t wear proper shoes.

What is your favorite post-run indulgence? After a half marathon, I must have a BIG margarita!

What was your favorite race and why?

The Derby Mini. I love the energy, the way the whole city shows up to cheer us on along the course, and of course running through Churchill Downs!

What is your bucket list race?

Queen Bee, Flying Pig, and a Disney race

Do you call yourself a runner? If so, at what point in your journey did that happen?

Yes. I think I started calling myself a runner after my first half marathon.

What is your favorite thing about being an SRTT member?  Meeting new people, showing new runners that you don’t have to be fast to be a runner, and introduce more people to the joys of intervals!

What have you struggled with during your running journey and did you find a solution?

My pace. I’m not a fast runner and it is hard to not compare myself to others. Joining SRTT and meeting others who are at my pace helped me feel less alone. I’m never the last one of the group, there are always other “sexy pacers” around me!

What three things do you most want to accomplish (running or non-running related)?

1) Run more out of state races

 2) Complete half marathons with a sub-3 hour time more consistently

3) Be more accepting of my body and my running as I progress through my 40’s.
